This is the song I was talking about:  Deodato’s version of Richard Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra  (theme from 2001:  A Space Odyssey).  Push the “play” icon on the lower left corner of the album cover.

While the song was playing, we projected this scene from the film 2001:  A Space Odyssey (without the audio, we had just had the music playing)  You should actually mute the volume on the video clip to get the proper effect.

Just afer the song climaxes, we entered the final countdown to midnight.  Balloons dropped.  Revelers revelry’ed.  As I recall, the night finished close to 6 hours later.
